UTSA Funding Opportunities

  • Collaborative Research Seed Grant Program (CRSGP)
  • The Office of the Vice President for Research is providing up to $110,000 in grants to start new and innovative collaborative and multidisciplinary research programs.

The lead PI must be a UTSA tenure or tenure-track faculty member. Co-PI's must be from outside the department, college, center or institute of the lead PI. Proposals will be accepted in two categories: 1.) Proposals from multiple departments within a single college and 2.) Proposals from multiple UTSA colleges, centers, or institutes or a single UTSA organization with collaborators from one or more outside organizations (e.g. Southwest Research Institute, UTHSCSA or industry). Two awards within each category are anticipated. Maximum awards for Category 1 will be $25,000 and maximum awards for Category 2 will be $30,000. Funding will be used exclusively for research activities and not for non-research related or administrative costs. Funding from this program must be expended by the end of the FY in which awarded. Any remaining funding will be returned.

If you have any questions, please call Mr. Jim Massaro at 458-6691.

  • Tenure-Track Research Award Competition Program (TRAC)
  • The TRAC Awards Program is part of UTSA's coordinated efforts to promote research and scholarship of the highest quality. The Office of the Vice President for Research is providing up to $110,000 for grants to start new and innovative research programs for full time, tenure-track, junior faculty (assistant professors).

Junior faculty competing for these awards may have associate and full professors on their team but the junior faculty member must be the PI.

Individuals or teams awarded TRAC funding cannot also receive collaborative research seed grant program (CRSGP) funding.

If you have any questions, please call Mr. Jim Massaro at 458-6691.

FY 2011/2012 TRAC and CRSGP Programs guidelines and application forms will be posted on our website when the information becomes available.

  • POCsparc - Proof of Concept
  • The South Texas Technology Management (STTM) has launched a new fund for faculty inventors, i.e. POCsparc, which supports short-term, objective-driven projects to enhance the commercial potential of UT inventions. POCsparc will award $10k or $25k for high-impact, tightly focused projects that can bridge the gap between promising invention and market-ready innovation.

  • Texas Ignition Fund - Early Stage Funding for UT Inventions
  • The Texas Ignition Fund (TIF), a new $2M grant program, was approved by the UT Board of Regents in December 2007 and is designed to stimulate commercialization of research discoveries at the 15 UT institutions by providing very early stage grants for the development and maturation of those discoveries into marketable intellectual property.
