Time & Effort

UTSA receives external funding from various sources with specified terms and conditions, including requirements that UTSA comply with applicable principles on charging costs to sponsored programs.

Accurate Effort reporting is a critical area in the management of sponsored programs. The basic requirement of the Federal Cost Principles (A-21 and A-110) is that salary charges on sponsored projects must be proportionate to the effort expended on those projects and documented in periodic Effort Certifications.

In addition, UT-System recently published Guidance on Effort Reporting Policies UTS 163 (formerly BPM 76) to ensure compliance of all UT Institutions with Federal and State effort reporting guidelines.

The Office of Research Integrity and Compliance has worked closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs and a working group composed of faculty, staff and administrators to create/update UTSA policies to meet UT System and Federal/State Guidelines.
